Arrival at the Quintino Sella Glacier
Greetings to all!!!
We have all made it to the mountain successfully and under
beautifully clear sunny skies. Our spirits are extremely high and the flight
in today, through the St. Elias Mountains, was spectacular. Mount Logan is so
massive that it could be seen from - in fact it dominated - the view from 100
kilometres away: the views were breathtaking!
Our Base Camp is now established (at 2515 metres) and this will
be our home for the next four or five days while we adjust to the altitude and
begin our carries through the King Trench to Camp 1. We're also adjusting to
the incredible range of temperatures on the glacier; last night, the
temperature dropped to -22 degrees celsius, whereas we are currently sorting
our gear in t-shirts and enjoying a balmy 17 degrees celsius. We can't wait to
really get going as this is a fascinating environment.
Will be in touch again soon, there is much work to be done!
Cheers!!
