Ryoma Rekishi-kan

Ryoma Rekishi-kan (Historical Museum)

26 historically famous scenes of Ryoma Sakamoto's life -- from his birth until his death by assassination along with Shintaro Nakaoka, his sworn friend, in Kyoto -- are depicted by 150 wax dolls. Each doll is so realistic it seems as if he or she is about to speak to you. You can enjoy time travel to the closing days of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

> From Gomen Station, Dosan Line, 15 minutes by cab

Whale Watching

Whale Watching

Whale Watching Okata-cho, famous as a town for whale watching, is about a 2.5-hour drive along National Road 56 from Kochi City. On a small pleasure fishing boat you can enjoy watching several 13-meter-long nitari whales swimming about 1 to 2 kilometers from the shore. The best season for whale watching is from April to October. Especially on fair days during April, May, July, and August, you have a better than 80% probability of seeing whales.

> From Kochi Station take the Tosa Kuroshio Railway for 2 hours to Tosa Irino Station. It's another 5 to 10 minutes by cab to each of the four harbors to catch whale-watching boats.
