Dear Mr. Brown,

I understand that the Dept. of Commerce has prevented the Internet Multicasting Service from providing full text of issued US patents on the Internet via WWW servers. I find this very disconcerting. University Organizations such as the one that I work for (Stanford University's Office of Technology Licensing) currently waste time and money using attorneys and patent search services to get copies of issued US patents. I would much prefer to be able to do my own searches for free in real time with a service such as was being provided by Internet Multicasting Service.

What possible reason could the Dept. of Commerce have for preventing this very useful service?

I would appreciate your feedback on this manner.

Sincerely,

Brian Kissel 415/473-3203, bkissel@leland.stanford.edu
