With a long 5,000 year-old history, Korea had difficult times with its neighboring countries. In spite of the sad history, todays korea is standing firm on democratic principles.

History tells about the 1945 liberation of Korea.

In July. 1948, the constitution of the Rep of Korea was first announced, following the end of the 2nd World War.

This was the first democratic promulgation which was based on freedom and rights of the Korean people. Approximately, three decades from 1960 ~ 1990, the government of Korea emphasized both economic growth and democratization in the country.

Now the governing Korea party, with chairman Kim Young-Sam, has many ambitions to materialize a ' New Korea. ' Presently, Korea faces a difficult relationship with North Korea. But as Koreans have seen the collapse of the east European communist bloc, they wish to see a peaceful unification.
