In Showa 30(1955), in connection with the observance of National Time Day on June 10, a new service is introduced which announced the correct time by telephone. Users dialing '223' hear a female voice giving a time sign followed by the correct time. The service originally begins with a time sign given every ten seconds, using a crystal clock, tape recorder and tone generator located in the Chiyoda Telephone Office. This equipment is highly accurate, with a margin of error of less than one second per day. It is the postwar recovery era, and the entire nation is working hard and watching the time closely. This highly industrious work ethic will become the foundation for Japan's astonishing economic growth in the coming years. | ||
