The New Digital Order in Art, Media, Industry and Culture

The accelerated growth of new technologies has heralded an age of an explosion of information. The theme of the Research Centre for Media Aesthetics is the new digital order in art, media, industry and culture, with a special focus on the relationship between culture and technology in particular. Another goal is to explore the new art forms of "Media Art" in the new multimedia environment. To achieve these goals, the Centre plans to assemble a wide range of both theorists and practitioners to deepen understanding of these concepts.

As the multimedia environment has established itself on the scale of the entire planet, the Centre sees the study of the effects of this new environment on the way we think, feel, learn and live as an issue of prime importance. In building an international network as a centre of both education and research, the Centre aims to promote and realise the idea of a "global education". However, in the study of technological development and innovation from an arts perspective, it is important to not lose sight of the globalisation of communication, media and digital media on the human scale. After all, digital society will have a huge influence on industry , society, culture and our lifestyles as we know them today. Instead of meekly following technological trends, the role of art and aesthetics is to depict these new innovations from a critical stance. This is one of the most important ways in which art and aesthetics serve society.
