Watermills in Asakura
You can see a beautiful triple watermill at Horikawa in Hishino, a small distance from National Road 386. It was constructed more than 200 years ago to irrigate the rice paddies at a higher elevation than the River Horikawa. It has been repaired a number of times and is still running strong today supplying irrigation to the paddies. There are also double watermills at Mishima and Kue. They operate from the middle of June until the middle of October, and they are well worth visiting.
