Yosakoi Festival is...

a tale of midsummer Kochi;
a free expression of costumes, dance and song;over 13,000 dancers gathering in a storm of sound, color and movement that pulses through the summer night;teams of numerous dancers flowing and ebbing in coordination with the violent rythms of song that consume them.Started in 1954, Yosakoi Festival featured 21 teams and 750 participants. Over the years it has drastically expanded -- such that the 1995 42nd Annual Yosakoi Festival was host to 123 teams and 13,300 participants, plus over 1 million spectators over the four day period of August 9 - 12.
