Gilt Bronze Sitting Maitreya
A work from the Three Kingdom era, this is exhibited in the National Museum. This Buddhist style was from India China. Most of the best sitting maitreyas are from the Three Kingdom period.

The lines of the sculpture are soft, gentle and natural.
The maitreya sits with its right knee bent on its left knee and with his right hand gently touching its cheek.

석굴암 본존불

경주 토함산 중턱에 자리잡은 석굴암에서 앞을 바라보이는 동해의 월성군 봉길리 어촌의 앞바다에 대왕암이라 일컫는 큰 암초가 솟아 있습니다. 이 암초의 중앙에는 인공 못이 있고 이 못 속에는 신라 제 30대 문무대왕의 능이 안치되어 있습니다. 죽어 호국룡이 되어 왜적으로부터 나라를 지키 겠다는 뜻을 받들어 신라인들은 이 문무대왕릉을 중심으로 감은사, 석불사 같은 큰 절들을 세웠는데 이처럼 석굴암은 신라인들의 염원이 스며 있는 것입니다. 이 석굴암 중앙에 자리잡은 석가여래좌상의 숭엄한 눈길은 항상 멀리 동해바다의 수평선 너머 먼 왜적의 나라를 바라보고 있습니다. 대자대비하며 원만한 대장부형의 얼굴과 아름답고 부드러우며, 온화한 얼굴을 모두 가지고 있는 본존불은 신라인의 모습일 것입니다.
Hwaumsa Pagoda

This is a work from the 9th century during the Unified Shilla period. The structure of this pagoda is a based on the three storied pagodas of the Unified shilla era.

On the top there are four tigers and in the middle there is a statue of a monk in prayer.

상원사 동종

신라시대의 종으로 높이 167cm이며, 강원도 평창군 상원사에 소재하고 있습니다. 신라 성덕왕 24년(725), 신라의 지혜와 아름다움을 모아 이룬 이 종은 지금 남아 있는 우리나라 종 중에서 조형상으로 가장 아름답고 오래된 종입니다. 종의 어깨부터 종구에 이르는 종신의 긴 곡선은 은근하면서도 전아한 기품을 보이고 있어 소위 한국적인 선의 아름다운 기조를 보여 주고 있습니다. 웅건한 조각의 용틀임으로 종의 꼭지를 삼았으며 이 꼭지에 이어서 용뉴라고 불리는 적정한 비례의 파이프 형의 장식이 세워져 있어 중국이나 일본에서 볼 수 없는 특이한 의장을 나타내고 있습니다. 종신의 중심부에는 어긋매겨서 주악비천상과 연화문으로 된 당좌를 두 군데씩 부조했는데, 당좌는 종을 울릴 때 당목으로 치는 장소로 마련된 것입니다.
Kumkwanchong Kumkwan

A golden crown from the Shilla period in the 5th and 6th century, this is exhibited in the National Museum in Kyungju.

Made by sewing thin gold plates with golden thread, there are ornaments dangling at the tips.

Baekchachulhwae Podo Vase

There were many kinds of jars made during the Chosun period. But the most noticed of all is the white porcelain jar with grapevine design. This work of pottery shows the characteristics of the works from the Chosun dynasty.
