The first radio broadcast was heard in Tokyo on March 22, 1925 (Taisho 14). After the announcement "JOAK - This is Tokyo Broadcasting...", the broadcast began with a tune by a naval band and continued with the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Broadcasting Corporation at 10 AM. In order to start broadcasting as soon as possible to meet the growing interest in radio, the organizers borrowed buildings, aerials, and transmitters and broadcast the signal from a temporary base in Shibaura. The permanent broadcasting facilities operated from Atagoyama and used a wireless telegraph and telephone transmitter belonging to the Tokyo City Electrical Research Laboratory. |
