When the telephone service was inaugurated, a bare wire of iron and copper was drawn to each subscriber. People watching telephone lines being added to telegraph lines, depicted the scenes as "the opening of a Chinese noodle shop", "long ornamental hairpins of a courtesan", or "masts of a ship". After the first aerial cable with bundled telephone lines was drawn in the 30th year of the Meiji Period, scenes like this disappeared gradually. | ||
