April 15, 1954 marks the opening of the 465.9-kilometer microwave line connecting Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. Microwave lines play important roles as trunk lines for long-distance telephone communications as well as trunk lines for television relay transmissions. The new microwave service is a major contribution to intercity communications.
