In the fourth year of the Meiji Period (1871), Siemens Morse print telegraph equipment was imported from England. This machine, when receiving, printed the Morse code with long and short points on tape in ink. When a trial of this machine was made, it responded more sensitively than the Breguet letter-point telegraph and with a relay attached, it worked well even with a small current. It could not only send and receive instantaneously but also handle long distance communication . It required skill to operate, so people were trained for telegraph service within the telegraph dormitory of the Ministry of Industry. | ||
