An American portrait painter Morse (Samuel Finley Breese, 1791`1872) thought of using electromagnets for a telegraph from experiments with electromagnets. He started researching the characteristic of electromagnets, whereby they became magnets only while the current flows. As a result, he invented a method of sending and receiving code representing letters by the intermittence of the current. This code was represented first by successive wave-forms but later by points and lines, what we call the Morse code. In 1837, he succeeded in a public experiment with his first telegraph at New York University where he worked. From the eighteenth to nineteenth centuries when he lived, the Industrial Revolution in England progressed. The railroad developed from the invention of a steam engine and with the railroad developed the telegraph. The construction of telegraph networks led to the "Electric@Revolution".
