NEWS KAKI Vol.1
Project No. 1, the Atomic Bombing Victim
Kaki Tree II,
took root on March 5, 1996
at the Ryuboku Elementary School in Daito-ku, Tokyo.
On that day, we heard the story of the Atomic Bombing
Victim Kaki Tree from the tree doctor Masayuki Ebinuma, who grows these
saplings in Nagasaki; we heard about how they are grown by the tree doctor
Nobuo Oike, who cares for them in Tokyo; and Mr. Miyashima told us of his
meeting with Atomic Bombing Victim Kaki Tree II. The kaki trees are named
by children, with male kaki trees being called "Kaki Kaki Kun"
(Kid Kaki Kaki) and the female ones "Yumekaki Chan" (Li'l Dream
Kaki). Kaki Kaki Kun refers to the parent Kaki that suffered the atomic
explosion, while Yume Kaki Chan are the newly born second generation trees,
and Yume Kaki Chan holds all our dreams. Be well and grow strong, Kaki
Kaki Kun and Yume Kaki Chan!
