carl,

please add my name to the list of people who would encourage their national standards bodies to get moving and get their standards on line.

i am quite sure that putting standards documents on line would be of a sizable benefit, not just for computer standards but for all manner of industrial and technical documents. not only would it be useful strictly from the point of view of generating business for companies such as ourselves who hook people up to the net, but also (and probably more importantly in the long run) it will cause the formation of new communities of interest on line and spark cooperation and shared work between organzaitons who once they are on line will no doubt have more to say than just "thanks for the copies of the standards".

putting standards on line should be seen as a vehicle for social change as much as it is a simple question of saving a few bucks on paper...
