[Thread Next] Distributed guestbook is ready for alpha.
Folks, After few hours of quick hacking, the distributed guestbook we have being talking about is almost ready for alpha testing. It's based on the current guestbook code, and works as follows. 1. The original guestbook.pl code was added with some additional code to emit a news article which contains relevant guestbook information to inews for distribution to other park servers, in addition to writing them to local files. 2. A copy of guestbook.pl, named guestrecv.pl, which is invoked by the news system as articles come in, was modified so that it decodes the relevant information from the news article read from standard input instead of just interpreting the input as application/www-urlencoded-* stuff and do the guest book insertion. You can test the system: 1. Access the following page and inscribe your entry. http://japan.park.org/Japan/Guestbook/guestbook.html 2. Click on the "Back to the guestbook" anchor to see your new entry. 3. Now access http://workplace.jaist.ac.jp/Japan/Guestbook/guestbook.html to see your entry passed to another site. To test this stuff in the real environment, I need your help. I want park machines to be installed with: o Some kind of news software (I'm using inn version 1.4 w/unofficial patchlevel 4). o The nntplink software When ready, drop me a line. --- shinoda
