[Thread Next] RE: Minutes of EDGAR Public Access Pilot Meeting
Ajit: Thanks for sending a draft of the minutes of our Aug. 5 meeting. They look fine to me although I would make a couple of additions: (1) Your conclusion about reaching to libraries and freenets was accurate. But I also thought we talked about trying to reach other audiences such as the public interest community and journalists. (2) There was discussion, stimulated by Hank Perritt, of three recommendations to the SEC: (a) SEC should provide greater clarification of reporting standards and should enforce these standards (this would provide the standard formating necessary for doing more with the data, such as placement in a DBMS program); (b) The SEC should make every effort to make the data publicly accessible as fast as possible; and (c) SEC must develop a feedback mechanism to obtain public input about quality of the data and the public access approaches. I thought the August 5 meeting was very helpful. You have done an impressive job in making the SEC data available through the Internet. I hope we might be able to develop an approach where RTK NET can be helpful in further exploring public access approaches. Gary Bass
