Let's not make them laugh. That argument is a sure looser. The EDGAR dissemination project doesn't (currently) serve a broad range of the public; it serves a very limited segment of that small portion of the general pubic needing or wanting access to original corporate filings.
There are certainly some good arguments for making the EDGAR system filings available on the internet at reasonable cost. That isn't one of them.
