During this visit to sensorium, the Earth has traveled km around the sun.

The Internet World Expo '96 (IWE '96) will close on the last day of the year, so there are only a few weeks left to view the site.
Since IWE '96 began, the Earth has almost orbited the sun once. The orbit covers 940,000,000kilometers.

It is a long journey that will continue for a long time...

During the orbit, the Earth passes through a trail of cosmic dust at a tremendous speed. The intense friction with the Earth's atmosphere causes the dust to burn up, thus forming a shooting star.
As the Earth revolves around the sun, the cosmic dust of comets gathers in pockets.
When the Earth passes through these pockets, shooting stars are much more prominent than usual; we call such shooting stars a meteor shower.
As an astronomic phenomenon, a meteor shower offers an opportunity to sense the Earth's speed relative to the universe.

"The Star Songs" is a work of beautiful illustrations and verses about meteor showers.

To complete its current orbit by 0:00 a.m. on January 1, 1997,
the Earth haskilometers yet to travel.
