Fire also signifies (and symbolizes) the origin of spirituality, life and death, creation and destruction. Izanami gave birth to minerals, water and procreative force in exchange for her own life. In these images, we can imagine volcanoes spewing forth boiling magma, lava and ashes and then forming fertile lands. Her genitals were the volcanic crater, and deep inside lay the channel through which hidden beings ("kami") emerged as deities ("kami"). This crater-genital was a transformer and transmitter of spiritual energy in the form of physical energy. (Anthropomorphically, it might also be compared to the acupoint of the meridian of fire.)
