Watzuwei Nature Reserve

This nature reserve is primarily intended to protect the "Shuipitsai" mangrove, and as this species of mangrove has one of the most northerly distributions, this area has special significance for the study of the distribution of plants. Together with the Tanshui Mangrove Forest and the Kuandu Nature Reserve, the Watzuwei Nature Reserve is a wetland area set aside to protect the Shuipitsai mangrove. The reserve as a whole can be divided into mudflat and sandbar areas; the rich organic nutrients brought by the daily rise and fall of the tides have nurtured abundant flora and fauna able to adapt to a harsh environment.
