Miaoli Sanyi Hoyenshan Nature Preserve

Frequent rains and unstable terrain have combined to make the Miaoli Sanyi Hoyenshan Nature Preserve an unusual scene of barren steep cliffs and gravel-filled valleys. Because of frequent washouts and erosion, the area is a difficult growing environmentfor plants. The Masson or Chinese red pine, however, not only survives on the steep gravel slopes, but flourishes where less hardy plants fail to take hold.
