Kenting Uplifted Coral Reef Nature Reserve
This nature reserve shelters numerous unique species of plants. The forest growing
on the uplifted coral reefs that compose this high stretch of the coast is the only one
of its kind in Taiwan. The camphor/chestnut oak plant community here is at the southern
end of its distribution, and the mixture of tree species within it is significantly different from
other areas. Therefore this reserve has great value for botanical research. The reserve
contains some of the most ancient uplifted strata of Hengchun limestone; composed
of fossilized coral reefs, this limestone has been eroded into scenic caves and crags
by millennia of wind and rain.
