Kinmen War Memorial National Park

The primary intent of the Kinmen War Memorial National Park is to preserve the area's cultural and historical resources. Since the island has been under cultivation for at least a hundred years, very little in the way of natural ecology still exists there. However, due to Kinmen's unique geographical location and alternating subtropical continental and maritime climate, its plant life includes 115 trees more than 100 years old and the unique occurrence in the Wu River estuary region of the rare plant Sea Chiehtung. Thanks to Kinmen's status as a relay station along migration routes, it is frequented by numerous species of birds. A total of 199 species of birds have been spotted here, and the density of birds is greater than anywhere else in the Taiwan-Fujian area. In addition, Kinmen has unique value for the study of geographical biology thanks to its location between Taiwan and the Fujian mainland.
