Mi Fu (style name Yuan-chang and sobriquet Hai-yueh wai-shih) excelled in painting, calligraphy, and connoisseurship. He was skilled in all of the script forms, but specially in the semi-cursive and cursive varieties.
This work was written in Mi's late thirties. The brush stroke are fluid that move, stop, twist, and turn with extra-ordinary freedom.
