Headdress with "double-happiness" character motif

Ch'ing dynasty (A.D. 1644-1911)
Height: 17.0 cm Width: 32.0 cm Depth: 19.5 cm

Lined in black silk, the entire front, peak and back surfaces of this crown are decorated with a kingfisher-feather cloud-pattern interspersed with "double-happiness" characters in red coral as well as amethysts, pearls and other semi-precious stones. From the front brim hangs a fringe of strands of jade and other semiprecious stones.
