Carved rhinoceros-horn Kuang cup with human figures motif

Ch'ing dynasty, Ch'ien-lung period (A.D. 1736-1795)

A rhinoceros horn is carved in the shape of an ancient bronze kuang vessel. Minute and intricate relief carvings of immortals and dwellings in a wooded landscape decorate the outside wall, while the inside wall is covered with dragon and cloud patterns. The cup's underside has a six-character Ch'ien-lung-period reign-mark.
