Gold-etched filled-in lacquer chrysanthemum plate with dragon motif

Ming dynasty, Chia-ching period (A.D. 15'22-1567)
Diameter: 18.2 cm

A round red lacquer plate in the shape of chrysanthemum petals with a ring foot. On the inside surface a branch of peony in bloom and a long dragon amidst clouds are gold-etched and filled-in on the plate. The exterior wall is decorated with a fine gold-etched chrysanthemum-petal pattern. The under-side has a six-character Chia-ching reign-mark in gold.
