Carved red lacquer vase with floral motif
Ming dynasty, Yung-lo period (A.D. 1403-1424)
Thickness: 16.4 cm Diameter: 9.2 cm
This vase has a straight mouth, a long neck, a protruding belly and a slightly recessed base. The sides of the mouth rim are carved with a row of key-fret work. The neck and the belly are carved with flowers of the four seasons. The vase's underside bears a six-character Yung-lo reign-mark inscribed with a needle.
