This piece is composed of two parts, an outer vessel rendered in openwork design partially encasing a smaller vase which may be turned from the neck. When the inner vase is revolved, the playful fish peering shyly through the rosette portals appear to be swimming about. This type of two-piece vessel was extremely difficult to fire and was manufactured only during the Ch'ien4ung period.
