Brush pot with underglaze three color landscape decor
Ch'ing dynasty, K'ang-hsi ware (A.D. 1661--1722),
Height: 14.0 cm, Depth: 12.7 cm, Diameter of mouth: 18.5 cm, Diameter of foot: 18.2 cm
The exterior of this brush pot is decorated with a landscape painting done in three color underglaze. Cobalt blue is used for the pine needles and the fishing boat, copper red is used for the tree branches and trunks, and the rocks were first carved in low relief then painted cream color. The entire surface is finished with a transparent light celadon glaze. This vessel is faultless, with the blue and red having come out particularly well.
