Ju ware, light-green glaze lotus-shaped hot-water bowl

Sung dynasty (A.D. 960 - 1279)

This vessel is made in the shape of a ten-petalled lotus-flower with a wide mouth; it served to hold hot water and keep it hot.
Very few specimens of Ju ware have been preserved. The Museum includes twenty-one pieces of this ware in its porcelain collection, each one of which is of great rarity and value.
