Expo Radio Episode 1: Uma Guha In the autumn of 1995, Uma Guha performed a twilight raga on the sarod at her home in the Bengal region of India, a fitting prelude for dawn in the global village. A raga is a classical Indian musical form in which a pattern of notes is used by the artist as a point of departure for the creation of melodic and harmonic improvisation--traditionally this particular raga is played at sunrise or sunset. This performance was captured by Deb Roy using a portable DAT; careful listeners will hear the ambient sounds of a Bengali residential neighborhood in the background.
