The ditribution of culling rates over the 9 foot diagonal scores are presented in the figure. The culling rates are lowest for heifers with a foot diagonal score of 5 or 6, which shows there is an optimum for the length of the foot diagonal in regard to herdlife. Furthermore, it should be noted that the differences in culling rates for the foot diagonal scores 3 to 8 are small. Heifers with foot diagonal scores of 1 or 2 (long), or 9 (short) show significantly higher culling rates of 13, 7 and 9%, respectively. Furthermore, it may be concluded that short foot diagonals are somewhat more desired in regard to herdlife than long foot diagonals.
