The design
Six gate variants were developed:
- lifting-gate;
- divided rolling-doors;
- undivided rolling-door;
- vizor gate;
- tilt-up gate;
- valve variant.
The most important performance requirement
of the gates was to reduce the "leakage"
through the Europort area. Other positions
of the gates, however, also needed to be
researched: the elevated position
(allowing for windforce-loads and
temperature-related contraction and
expansion), the "opening" and "closing"
positions and various assembly positions.
The decision in favour of a lifting-gate
was provided by the Hartel Bridge itself
with its central pillar and the existing
layout of the navigation channel.
