"Opening the Beer Dam is essential in order to cope with the increase in domestic container shipping. The Maasvlakte will be made more accessible. We now have 300 metres of domestic shipping wharf-space and 3000 metres for maritime shipping. All the quays will shortly become dual-purpose, meaning that we can avoid the need for additional activities since no further transhipment will be required. In some cases the containers from ocean-going steamers can be transferred directly onto barges."
