Renzo Piano
Prizes and Awards
Piano has won recognition in various national and international architectural competitions. In 1978 he was awarded the Uniton Internationale des Architects in Mexico City; in 1981 he was awarded the Compasso d'Oro in Italy and the AIA Honorary Fellowship in the USA; in 1984 he was awarded "Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres" in Paris and in 1985 the "Legion d'Honneur" also in Paris; he was awarded RIBA Honorary Fellowship in London, and in 1989 the RIBA Royal Gold Medal for Architecture and the "Cavaliere di Gran Croce" award by the Italian ` Government.
In 1990 he became honorary doctor of Stuttgart University and was awarded the Inamori Foundation Prize in Kyoto; in 1991 he was awarded the Neutra Prize in Pomona, California; and honorary doctorship from Delft University in 1992.
Teaching
He has been visiting professor at Columbia University, New York; University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; the Oslo School of Architecture; the Central London Polytechnic and the Architectural Association School of London.
