Dear Mr. Blokzijl,
With great interest I have received notice of the intention to organize the Internet World Exposition in 1996.
Where the first world expositions in the world were mainly used to show modern technology to society, there is now the possibility to show the world as it is now with the help of modern technology.
The digital highways will lead to digital cities and countries in 1996 and will function as a modern link, as an electronic bridge between cultures.
Insight in, and contact with other cultures contribute to the extension of knowledge, but is especially an enrichment of our separate cultures. the multicultural character of our world is made more intelligible than ever.
I am delighted that the city of Amsterdam is actively involved in the development of the Internet and the Internet 1996 World Exposition.
I wish you and all other contributors good luck with the organization of this first electronic world exposition. I express the expectation and hope that hereafter there will still be many world expositions to come.
S. Patijn
Mayor of Amsterdam.
