UTILIZATION OF NATURE


The department on the " Utilization of Nature " displays the exhibits of 900 artifacts in a 1500m permanent exhibition hall(1F) and consists of four themes dealing with utilization of energy, machinery, information, traffic and transportation. Through these displays, we can understand changes in the utilization of nature from ancient times to the present.

  • Energy

    Principle of Nuclear Power

    Nuclear Power which is called the third fire is the modern energy source for today's society. This exhibit is designed to promote better understanding of the nuclear power system and the use of nuclear energy. it presents the construction of a nuclear power plant and its principles, the effect of radiation, and the economic advantages and necessity of nuclear power.



    Solar Energy

    This set of exhibits shows the principle and the application of the solar energy system which converts the rsdiant energy of sun light into electric power.

    Future City

    A future city with a flourishing environment due to the development of various energy sources is displayed.



  • Machines

    Industrial Robot

    This robot operates a special program which can draw the Columbia Space Shuttle, KUMDORI, the mascot of the '93 Taejon Expo, and HODORI, the mascot of the '88 Olympic Games, as a souvenir.

    Watt's Steam Engine

    This exhibit, a steam engine, which is half the actyal size, was invented by J. Watt at the end of the 18th century. This engine used steam under pressure to supply mechanical energy through the action of a pistion sliding in a cylinder and was used to power trains.

    Ancient Communication

    One ancient communication method and its apparatys, a signal fire station in Suwon Castle, is exhibited.



  • Traffic and Transportation

    Space Shuttle

    This exhibit is a 1 : 10 scale model of the Columbia space shuttle.

    Wright Brothers' Flyer

    This exhibit shows the first flyer which was invented by the Wright brothers in the U.S. The first flight in 1903 by Orville Wright was a milestone in the development of today's aviation industry.

    Railroads Panorama

    The various ground transportation systems are exhivited with city scenery. On the tracks, model trains ranging from the steam engine to the magnetic levitation vehicle are displayed.
