NATIONAL FOLKLORE MUSEUM The national folklore museum used to situate inside the kyungbok palace. This museum architectural structure is based on the traditional Korean way.

The center of the museum is constructed similar to the Bulkugsa Temple.

The museum was built in order to let Koreans know about their own cultural background and to feel proud of being Korean.

The museum is divided into three main halls. The outdoor exhibits displays things that cannot be shown indoors. Housing lifestyles are shown outside.



  • 1st hall
  • This hall shows the lifestyles from the stone age to the Choson dynasty. The items show how the lifestyles of the Three Kingdoms, Kaya's iron, Koryo's publishing and pottery, and Choson's linguistics and science.

  • 2nd hall
  • This hall shows clothing, housing, food and embroidery styles of long ago.

  • 3nd hall
  • This hall shows the social status of ancient times. Items here show the development of a child turning into a adulthood. Ways of education and marriage processions are shown in this hall.

    Take subway number 3 and get off at Kyungbokkung AnkukStation. If you take the bus, get off at a bus station on Sejongro.
