[Origin]

Our province was a territory of Jinhan,one of Samhan before A.D. After Shilla's foundation, they unified three kingdoms and formed the main stream of the notional culture.


AS to the provincial name,it was called as KYONGSANGDO for the first time in A.D.l3l4,when was the King Chungsuk the 1st year of an era. In 1896,33rd year of Emperor Kojong, it was called as KYONGSANG PUK DO according to "13 province system" and coming to 1914 in compliance with adjustment of the current administrative divisions.

• 1 Mar.1914 : REarrangement (1 city,22 counties.h, islet)
  

• 15 Aug.1949 : Taegu,Pohang,Kimchon promoted to "city",Wullung islet was changed into"Kunt(county) 3 cities,23 counties)
  

• 1 SEp.1955 : Kyongju promoted to "city" (4 cities,23 counties)

• l Jan.1963 : Andong promoted to "city",Wullung country was incorporated into this province from Kangwon province. (5 cities,24 counties)
  

• 1 Apr.1966 : Provincial government buildings moved to the present locate.on from Pojong-dong,Jung-ku,Taegu.
  

• 15 Feb.1978 : Kumi promoted to "city"(6 cities,24 counties)
  

• 1 Apr.1980 : Yongju promoted to "city", and name of Yongju-kun was changed into Yongpung-kun. (7 cities,24 counties)
  

• 1 Jul.1981 : Taegu-city promoted to "direct control city" being departed from the original extent. Yongchun promoted to "city".(8 cities,24 counties)
  

• 1 Jan.1986 : Sangju,Jomchun promoted "city" (9 cities"24 counties)

• 1 Jan.1989 : Kyongsan promoted to "city",Wolsung-kun changed into Kyongju-kun.(10 cities,24 counties).
  

• l Jan.1995 : Cities and counties of urban and rural compound type vere unified into one. (10 cities,14 counties)
  

• 1 Nov.1995 :Talsung-kun was incorporated into Taegu Metro politan city. (;10 cities, 13 counties)
  

[Location]

KYONGSANG PUK D0 locates in southeastern part of Korean Peninsular. To east of province there is the Eastern Sea,td west,Chungchong province and Jolla province, to north Kangwon province. There is Wullugg islet 217 kmfrom Pohang-city in direction of east,and Dokdo islet 262 km.

From the eastern pert of the peninsular to the southern direction the Taebaek Mountains stretched stirringly from the Paektu Mountain, nation's spiritual mountain along by the shore of the Eastern Sea. In the northwest of province,the Sobaek Mountains,separated from the Taebaek Mountaina run to southwest from northwest of province. Between the Mountains the Naktong River,a life line of Yongnam locality flows meanderingly into the Southern See getting 13 cities and counties,in 525 km distant (1,300 "ri"in Korean measure). This river is the secondary long one in Korea.

[Climate]

Being almost sourrounded by mountains,there is a big temperature gulf in province,the year ammount of rain is 900-1,300 mm. In inner area of province,rain comes so little in summer.
