• Location and Geograthical Features
    Located in the center of Korean peninsula, itself at the easten end of the Eurasian Continent, Chung Chong Buk-Do, with a north latitude of 36 o4' to 37 o20' and east longitude of 127 o16' to 128 o28', lies at almost the same latitude as that of Tokyo, Peiging, Teheran, Lisbon and San Francisco.
    Also, our province, the one and only in land province, is bordered by the Sobaek mountain range to the east the Charyong mountain range to the north west and both the Namhan and Kum Rivers nourshing her with theirwaters.

  • History
    Various remans of the period from the Farly Stone. Age to the Bronze Age, 700 thousand years age when humanbeings habitated firstly in Korean peninsula, have been found in several placus along the Namhan and Kum Rivers providing evidence of our early ancestors' way of life during those period. By the reason of these we confer the fast that Chung Chong Buk-Do was the initial area ofthe Korean peninsula histor.
    This area was a battleield fought over by the three kingdoms of Koguryo, Shilla and Packche, all when bordering the Chung Chong Buk-Do region. So, Chung Chong Buk-Do was the complexed area of three country's culture.
    Chung Chong Do Province was divided into north and south in 1896(the 32rd year of King Kojong's reign).

  • Climate
    The climate of Chung Chong Buk-Do is the typical Korean continental climate, clearly habing four distanctive seasons. Thus, while the average temperature of the province throughout he year is 10 o ~12oC(indicating a relatively warm temperature) it is, in fact, very hot in summer, with an aberage temperature reaching upwards of 25o~ 27oC. And on the other extreme, winters here are exceptionally cold, the average temperature falling to 3o~5oC degrees below zero. The precipitation of the province is approximately 1,000~1,200mm/year, though there are some local variations.

  • Traditional Culture, Tourism As one of the most famous sites in the nation known for their beautiful scenery, Mt, Songn, located in the Sobaek mountain range (which also includes Chonwhang bong 1,057m), Gyungus Platcau, lbsok Platcau, Kwanum-bong, and Munjang-Ptatea, attracts a great number of mountain climbers and tourists. Popju Temple, in this area is a large temple founded 1,400 years ago (in the 14th of King Jinhung of Shila) which contains many natural mouments and heritages, including three natronal theasures.

    Mt. Warak National Parks
    Mt. Worak has made a name for itself as a scenic spot for tourists because of its beatiful rugged mountain features. With steep mountains and deep valleys in which mineral springs abound and small streams combine into rivers, there are eliffs throughout the valley which consist of a variety of curious rocks, hamonizing with dense thickets along its sides.

    Mt. Sobaek National Parks
    Habing 9 hallowed mountains (including Biro-bong, Yonwha-bong) and 6 valleys, Mt. Sobaek effers an impressive display of its power, boasting of grandeur. Yew tree, Designated a natural mounment, grow spontaneously and flourish. Every June Eoyal Azadea blossoms can be seen everwhere on this mountain, allowing a fill enjoyment of the beauty of nature, and naturally the Sobaek Azalea Festival is held here every year.

    Sightseeing from a cruise boat The 53Km cruise counecting Chungju to Tanyang. From on board a cruise boat, people can enjoy magnificent views of the landscape around Chungju Lake. The scenery of Oksun -bong and Gudam bong, one of the eight great scenic wonders of Tanvang offer the passing tourist cspecially breathtaking sights. Also, tourists can enjoy various sightseeing excursions in the vicinity of the lake, at places like Suanba Hot Springs, the Gate of Mt. Choryong, and Miruk temple.
