TRADITIONAL
JAPAN
GAGAKU(a Japanese ancient court music) is older than any other
traditional music in Japan. Besides, although there are many kinds of
orchestras in the world, GAGAKU has the longest history. In that
sense, it is one of the few cultural things we Japanese could be proud
of, as well as the work of CHIKAMATSU.
KOTO also plays an important role in Japanese traditional music.
Japanese have expressed their mental subtleties playing SHAMISEN(a
Japanese guitar), SHAKUHACHI(a vertical bamboo flute), and KOTO
altogether. These instruments have opened up an original field of
art. However, these traditional music are already on the decline. We
can see it in the existence of preservational societies. It is sad to
say, but when preservation become necessary, history shows that sooner
or later the tradition fade away.
