Swift-Tuttle comet and Kiuchi to meet in approximately 2,446,000,000 km.
October 13, 1986 Kohei, Kiuchi's first son, is born.

"Whenever I went to see him, I could make him out even from a long distance. It was like he was saying 'Here I am, among all these other babies.' It was fun."

"I compare it with my own childhood. 'I used to be interested in that.' Then, I watch in silence. I return to my own childhood. Even if I know the answer to something, I search for it with him, and when we find it, we marvel together. It's fun watching the immense satisfaction a child derives from discovering something.
Children are unusual, and I like being unusual with them. I want to foster their sensitivities and insights."
