Swift-Tuttle comet and Kiuchi to meet in approximately 5,838,900,000 km.
November 1965 Kiuchi is impressed by the Ikeya-Seki comet.

"In the fifth grade, I became more and more interested in stars. That was probably when I saw the comet. I was delivering newspapers and saw it right at daybreak. I said it was truly beautiful. I found out the comet's name from the newspaper and television. I also learned that comets are named after the person who first discovers them. I said that I wanted to discover a comet."
