In an oasis water containing mineral components collect and harden together with the sand to form shapes resembling flower petals. These structures form multiple layers to attain the shape of a large flower and have been called by the native people "sand rose". These structures are found in deserts like the Sahara desert.

Memories of a song

Minerals require a long time to form the beautiful shape of a rose, the "sand rose". The thus created image has been applied to the Hiroshima National Athletic Meeting to express the marvels and prayers regarding encounters during this meeting, and symbolize the brilliance of life. All these ideas are send forth from Hiroshima in the form of the sand rose.
