Roofs covered with Bogawara (round roof tiles), painted walls and lattice work contribute
to creates for this region the impression of a "little Kyoto of Aki, Takehara". The whole
city remains as it has been during the late days of the Edo period and has been designated
an "preservation area of important historical architecture".
