Hiroshima Castle

Called "Carp Castle", the Hiroshima Castle, that celebrated its 400th anniversary in 1989, is still the symbol of the city.
Since Terumoto Mori built it in 1589, it served the Mori, Fukushima and Asano families for 280 years as residence.
During the Sino-Japanese War the headquarter was established here and the building has played an important role in history.
Yet, it was destroyed by the atomic bombing in 1945.
So far, only the Tenshukaku tower has been rebuild in 1958.
