Tomo-no-Ura is located at the tip of the Numakuma peninsula, approximately 14 km from
Fukuyama station, and is a representative scenery for the Inland sea of Japan (Seto Naikai)
park.
Islands like Benten and Sensui island floating in the gently Inland sea of Japan do
look like a painting.
This port in the middle of the Seto Naikai has flourished since ancient times as a site,
where people waited for the tide to change and that provided a convenient place for trade
with the main land.
This Taichorou ("countercurrent tower") was built between 1688 and 1703 and has been
designated a national historical monument.
